Biographical
Born and
raised aboard the Queen Mary, I never quite lost my
sea legs, but they didn't help me deal with my
first major trauma. My childhood career as a piano
prodigy was cut brutally short when the Slovenian
concert hall in which I was playing the notorious
"Rach 3" was demolished in a freak storm. Though
struck twice by lightning, I can clearly recall
being visited by the spirit of Edith Wharton who
made me promise to someday write a book about her
(years later, I would actually write two -- one for
each lightning bolt).

Fighting back a tear
or two, my mother, Sally Jesse Raphael, urged me
post-disaster to direct my energies into a field guaranteed
to earn me gainful employment. I was also inspired by an
accidental meeting in the South of France with the
resplendent Tiara Duvet, who gives advice as good as
anything else she gives. So, after I graduated from the
Sorbonne with a degree in kibitzing (cum laude), I
ghost-wrote many of Jacques Derrida's laugh-riot screenplays
-- all of them unproduced, but several optioned by Demi
Moore.
The
real Lev Raphael. By the way, the books listed on the
right are real, too. The rest of this biography is,
alas, fictional. -- Editor
